Ethel Morrison Williams

Seven Sisters

Grandma Williams had seven beautiful daughters - Sister, Be, Leatt, Babe, Neola, Joyce and Hon.

Seven sisters, all alike and all different.  Some with black hair, some brunette, some blonde.  Some with deep fiery eyes - some blue and some green.  Not a meek soul among them, all cheerful, strong willed survivors.  They may disagree from time to time but are always there not just in time of need but in time to enjoy one another.  The sisters have three brothers which gave the family three sister-in-laws - Betty, Sis and Carol.    The seven sisters have 17 daughters and 11 sons which gave the family daughter-in-laws and nieces and grand-nieces and step-nieces and cousins.  That adds up to a lot of sisters, all alike but all different.

Sisters come in all shapes and sizes.  Sisters are not always biological.   Sisters are sometimes those special friends you meet in Sunday school, or elementary school, or high school, or college.

You may find a sister when you move to a new place, or when you just happen to be at the same place at the same time.

Sisters laugh and cry with you and sometimes dress like you.

A sister is someone to turn to when no one else will understand.

A sister is someone you can act like an idiot with or talk with about your deepest thoughts.

Big sisters help little sisters.

A sister is someone you call when you love your husband but you just need to tell someone how stupid he is today.

A sister knows when it is ok to tell you that your hair is not quite right and when it would be better to just let that comment slide.

You can be mean to a sister and she will forgive you.

You can be apart from a sister for a long time and she will not forget you.

Sisters listen to your dreams and help you follow them.

Sisters know You.

Sisters cover for you when you have overbooked your calendar.

Sisters make work easier.

Sisters help you celebrate.

Sisters pray for you.

Sisters laugh with you but never at you.  Unless it is that mean thing mentioned above that you will forgive her for later : )

Sisters are just fun to be with!

This month's quilt pattern is - "Seven Sisters"  The seven sisters block dates back to the mid 1800s and is said to represent the seven sisters/stars of the Pleiades constellation.  The seven stars are the seven daughters of Atlas(father) and Pleione(mother) - Alcyone, Asterope (a double star), Electra, Maia, Merope, Taygeta and Celaeno.   The seven sisters quilt block consists of seven connected stars and can be arranged into many wonderful quilt combinations.
