Harding Family Quilts
Wedding Quilt - Rose of Sharon

This quilt is Lydia Harding's wedding quilt.
Lydia Ann Stout was born August 20, 1844.  She married Hiram Harding on September 3, 1860.

This quilt is a four block quilt, four large appliqué blocks surrounded by a matching border.  It measures approximately 71"x71".  The exact quilters are not recorded but it is likely Lydia, her mother and possibly her grandmother made this quilt.  The feathered wreath and cross hatch stitching is impressive and meticulous.  The fabric used for the vines and leaves in the border are a light brown color.  The vine fabric was likely green when the quilt was made and faded over the years due to a fugitive dye used to create the original color.

Lydia is pictured below in her later years at the family farm in southern Indiana.  Her daughter Pearl is standing to Lydia's right, daughter-in-law Elva to her left, and grand-daughter Louise is standing behind her.
